Hannaford settles OSHA labor dispute

Hannaford supermarkets is settling a dispute with the U.S. Department of Labor by promising to institute new worker protection standards at two distribution centers.

The Associated Press said the department’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration cited the grocery chain for failing to keep distribution centers in Schodack Landing, N.Y., and South Portland free of hazards that could cause muscular and skeletal system disorders. Hannaford initially contested the citation, but the new agency said the Labor Department noted Wednesday that the company is settling and instituting new policies. The company will also pay $9,750 in fines.
