Harris Golf sells Boothbay CC

Bath-based Harris Golf has sold the Boothbay Country Club for $4.5 million to a group of investors, according to GolfConstructionNews.com.

The sale of the 300-member private golf club was announced Oct. 14. The group of investors is led by longtime club member James Reeves, a Connecticut resident, and veteran Harris Golf employee Clayton Longfellow, who lives in Edgecomb, according to the golf news website.

When Harris Golf purchased Boothbay County Club in 1994 it was a public, nine-hole course. Over the next 13 years, the company transformed the property, adding another nine holes, developing 21 real estate lots and taking the club private.

Harris Golf owns Penobscot Valley Country Club in Orono, Sunday River Golf Club in Newry and the Freeport Country Club. This summer, it also opened Old Marsh Country Club in Wells, the only new golf course opened in New England this year, at a cost of $8.5 million, according to Portland news station WGME 13.
