Hospitals in line for helipads

Two northern Maine hospitals expect to have helipads this fall, funded through a combination of state bond money and federal grants.

Penobscot Valley Hospital will receive $18,750 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Development Program and $103,700 from a Maine Transportation Bond for the helipad, while Millinocket Regional Hospital will receive $18,300 from rural development program and $106,250 from the bond, according to a joint release from Maine's congressional delegation.

The pads will be developed by Lifeflight Foundation to provide access for emergency medical helicopters.
