Maine Children’s Alliance in Augusta recently hired Rita Furlow as senior policy analyst. Furlow was previously an advocate in the Office of Advocacy in Maine’s Department of Health and Human Services and a civil rights attorney for the Disability Rights Center.
KeyBank in Portland recently hired Melissa Knutson as vice president and SBA relationship manager, business banking, for the Maine and Vermont markets. Knutson was previously business banking relationship manager for JPMorgan Chase and Co., in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Acadia Hospital in Bangor recently named Wayne Steller vice president and chief nursing officer. Steller had been serving as interim chief nursing officer since June.
Gorham Savings Bank recently hired Tom Peterson as a loan officer. Mostly recently Peterson was with Wells Fargo Home Mortgage.
Stantec, an engineering, consulting and design firm in Scarborough, recently hired James Manzer as a civil engineer in its transportation practice.
Willis of Northern New England Inc., an insurance broker in Lewiston, recently hired Erin Berryman as a client services consultant in its human capital practice in Portland. Previously, Berryman was a health coach for APS Healthcare in South Portland.
The Maine Red Claws, a member of the NBA Development League in Portland, recently hired Will McClaran, Sandra Eustis-Brackett, Chris Taylor and Erika Johnson. McClaran was hired as director of public relations and community relations; Eustis-Brackett as office manager; Taylor as an account executive in the ticket sales department; and Johnson as public relations and operations assistant.
Vreeland Marketing & Design in Yarmouth recently hired Mark Peterson as web developer and Dori Shepard as accounting and human resources manager. Peterson was previously a private consultant while Shepard was the managing partner and CFO at NL Partners in Portland.
Allen Insurance and Financial in Camden recently hired Amy Bowen in the company’s Belfast branch to focus on business insurance. Bowen was previously an assistant branch manager at Bangor Savings Bank in Belfast. The firm also hired Stephanie McBride as an account manager in the voluntary benefits division in Camden.
People’s United Bank in Portland recently hired Crystal Card as financial services manager and Lindsay Brockett as customer service manager in its Brunswick office.
Bernstein Shur, a law firm in Portland, recently hired attorney Kelsey Wilcox in its labor and employment practice group. Previously, Wilcox served as a judicial clerk to the Maine Superior Court.
Dream Local Digital, a digital marketing agency in Rockland, recently hired Ashley Jo Potvin as a marketing strategist. Potvin previously worked for a Maine nonprofit.
Competitive Energy Services, an energy advisory firm in Portland, recently hired Charles Agnew as business development and account manager. Agnew was previously vice president/technical sales with Biomass Commodities Corp.
Husson University in Bangor recently hired Charles Collins as executive director of the university’s southern Maine campus in South Portland. Collins was previously the state director for the Maine Community College System Early College for ME program.
Islandport Press in Yarmouth recently hired Jennifer Hazard as an assistant editor. Hazard is the editor and founder of the blog, Cute Potato, which highlights family-friendly events, shops and restaurants throughout Maine.
Baker Newman Noyes, a CPA and consulting firm in Portland, recently hired Robert Croak as a principal in the firm’s tax advisory services practice. Croak previously served as director of global tax for a large multinational company based in Massachusetts.
Pine Tree Society, a statewide organization serving Maine children and adults with disabilities, recently hired Meghan Langella as speech language pathologist within Communication Pathways. Langella previously worked in special education in the Portland Public School system.
Pen Bay Healthcare in Rockport recently hired Erik Frederick as COO. Frederick was regional director of lean operations for Vanguard Health Systems in Chicago.
Portland Models & Talent LLC, L3c in Portland recently hired Krystal Kenville as co-director. Kenville has more than 10 years of experience in film production, directing, casting and field production.
Norton Insurance Agency in Cumberland Foreside recently hired Tom McGintee as senior insurance marketer. McGintee was previously an account executive with United Insurance.

Down East: The Magazine of Maine in Camden recently announced that Kathleen Fleury has been named editor-in-chief. Fleury was most recently managing editor. Paul Doiron, editor-in-chief for the past eight years, was named editor emeritus.
TD Bank recently promoted Meredith Rousseau to senior vice president, Basel program director in South Portland. Rousseau was previously vice president, Basel program manager.
Appointments
The board of directors of the Maine Women’s Fund in Portland recently elected five new members and officers. The new members are: Rebecca Andreozzi, associate director of admissions, Gould Academy; Joyce Clark-Sarnacki, executive vice president, Bangor Savings Bank; Catherine Richards Olney; Natalie Solotoff, CPA and tax manager, Baker Newman Noyes; and Sarah Strickland. Officers are: Melinda Shain, corporate counsel, Diversified Communications, president; Georgia Nell Nigro, secretary; and Solotoff, treasurer.
Robert Lynch, clinic director at Lynch Chiropractic Arts Center in South Portland, was recently appointed by Gov. Paul LePage to the Maine Chiropractic Licensing Board.

Offers include: Chris Logan, Androscoggin Bank, president; Chris Branch, Sebago Technics, vice president; Maureen Aube, Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce, secretary; and Paul Labrecque, treasurer. Michael Aube, president of Eastern Maine Development Corp., in Bangor, was recently elected to the National Association of Development Organization’s board of directors. The organization provides advocacy, education, research and training for the nation’s regional development organizations.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit recently appointed George Kurr Jr., partner in the Bangor law firm Gross, Minsky & Mogul P.A., to serve on the circuit’s committee to nominate a successor to U.S. Bankruptcy Judge James B. Haines Jr.
Achievements
The State Workforce Investment Board’s Older Workers Committee recently announced that Erda, a leather goods manufacturer in Cambridge; Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor; and Mathews Bros., a window manufacturing company in Belfast, were selected as Maine’s best employers for workers over the age of 50 for 2013.
Berlin City Auto Group’s Vice President Yegor Malinovskii was recently honored by the U.S. Secretary of Defense as a patriotic employer. Malinovskii was recognized with the Freedom Award for contributing to the national security and protecting liberty and freedom by supporting employee participation in America’s National Guard and Reserve Forces.
The International SeaKeepers Society recently named the executive committee of the Sargasso Sea Alliance as its 2013 International SeaKeepers of the Year. The committee includes David Shaw, founding chair and managing partner of BlackPoint Group in Portland. The alliance, in collaboration with the government of Bermuda, has been mobilizing efforts to protect the Sargasso Sea, a 2-million-square nautical mile ecosystem in the North Atlantic.
The municipalities of Freeport, Vassalboro, Hope, Jackman and Carrabassett Valley were recently recognized for producing the highest-quality annual reports by the Maine Municipal Association.
Woodard & Curran, an engineering and environmental firm in Portland, was recently rated 72nd on Engineering News Record’s annual list of the top-200 environmental firms in the United States. Rankings were based on revenue from environmental projects, which includes water and wastewater, stormwater and environmental cleanup.
Thompson & Bowie, a law firm in Portland, recently announced attorneys Rebecca Farnum, James Bowie and Leonard Langer were named to Best Lawyers in America 2014.
Mike White, owner of White Family Freight Inc. in Linneus, was recently honored as a FedEx Ground Entrepreneur of the Year district-level winner.
The Maine Development Foundation’s Maine Downtown Center recently announced the five winning Green and Healthy Maine Streets $15,000 matching grant recipients. Winners included: Augusta Downtown Alliance, town of Belfast, Heart of Biddeford, Main Street Skowhegan and Waterville Main Street. The foundation also recently presented Champion Awards at its 35th annual meeting. Award winners included: Education, training and leadership development, Linda Lord, Maine state librarian; health and wellness, Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association’s Common Ground Country Fair; innovation and entrepreneurial capacity, Eastport Port Authority; and attraction, retention and engagement, Blackstone Accelerates Growth. The Kenneth M. Curtis Leadership Award was presented to Cary Olson Cartwright, assistant vice president of corporate responsibility at Unum.
