TD Bank recently hired Sean Roy-Becker as a private banking officer at TD Wealth Management in Portland. Previously, Roy-Becker was a relationship manager at Key Private Bank in Portland.

TD Bank in Auburn recently hired Chris Rugullies as part of its commercial lending team.

Rinck Advertising in Auburn recently hired Michael Anderson as digital developer.

Hancock Lumber recently hired Sherry McFarland, a kitchen, bath and tile designer, at its Home Again store in South Portland.

Digital Research Inc., a marketing research firm in Kennebunk, recently hired John Leggett as research director and William Buxton as research assistant.

Port City Flooring, a flooring store in Portland, recently hired Becky Akers and Jeff Stuard as sales consultants.

Counseling Services Inc., a community mental health agency in Saco, recently hired Denise Wilson as director of care management. Previously, Wilson was manager of clinical information and health information services training at Sweetser in Saco.

McTeague Higbee, a workers’ rights law firm in Topsham, recently hired Carol Garvan as an associate attorney.

The Portland Water District recently hired Amanda Roy and Elissa Guerrette as environmental educators.

Franklin Community Health Network in Farmington recently hired A. Jack Barnard, a physician assistant, to the medical staff of Franklin Health Orthopaedics, Three Rivers Orthopaedics and Franklin Memorial Hospital.

Mid Coast Health Services in Brunswick recently hired Steven Trockman as director of community relations and outreach.

Avesta Housing in Portland recently hired Eric Boucher as chief financial officer. Previously, Boucher was a vice president and audit manager for TD Bank.

The Bangor City Council recently hired Catherine Conlow as city manager.

The city of Old Town recently hired John Rouleau as its new public works director.

The Back Bay Grill, a restaurant in Portland, recently hired Francesca Bowman as pastry chef. Previously, Bowman worked under chef Tony Mantuano at Spiaggia in Chicago.

Weatherization Wizards Inc., a weatherization solutions provider in Auburn, recently hired James Welch as a master wizard and Jody Brown as an associate wizard. Previously, Welch and Brown were weatherization technicians at BioSafe in Westbrook.

The University of New England recently hired Gayle Brazeau as dean of the College of Pharmacy in Portland. Previously, Brazeau was a professor of pharmacy practice and the associate dean for academic affairs in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University at Buffalo, State University of New York.

Promotions

Norton Financial Services, a provider of employee benefits and investment services in Cumberland Foreside, recently promoted Kerri Willette to human resources generalist.

Camden National Bank recently promoted Jane Dagley, vice president, to Camden market manager.

TD Bank recently promoted Tonya Beckwith to manager at the branch located at 756 North Roosevelt Trail in North Windham. TD Bank also promoted Matthew Woodside to designer/developer II with TD University, the bank’s employee training and development center in Falmouth. Previously, Beckwith was assistant manager and Woodside was designer/developer I.

Downeast Energy in Brunswick recently promoted Bill Morrell to vice president of business development and administration.

Weatherization Wizards Inc., a weatherization solutions provider in Auburn, recently promoted J. Scott Wetherell from master wizard to director of field operations.

Appointments

Sarah Coburn, an attorney at Portland-based law firm Verrill Dana, was recently elected to the board of directors of the conservation organization Friends of Casco Bay/Casco Baykeeper.

Company news

Seac Banche, a provider of document imaging technology headquartered in Firenze, Italy, and KICTeam, a manufacturer of cleaning cards in Auburn, recently announced the release of two products designed to remove dust, paper particles and inks from Seac Banche document scanners.

Spectacular Event Center and Catering Co. in Bangor recently announced it has expanded and launched its new business lunch delivery food services menu.

The Thrifty Kitty Thrift Store recently opened at 651 Forest Ave. in Portland. All proceeds from the shop, which sells books, house wares, glassware, videos, seasonal items and more, benefit Friends of Feral Felines, a nonprofit.

Play and Learn, a children’s retail store in Freeport, recently announced that after 17 years of business it will close its store at 200 Lower Main St. by the end of the year.

The U.S. Army recently awarded a contract in the amount of $13.2 million to Brewer-based construction firm Nickerson and O’Day Inc. to construct phase two of the Maine Army National Guard’s Regional Training Institute at the Bangor Armed Forces Reserve Center.

Shawn Graham, a counselor in the University of Maine at Fort Kent Student Support Services’ TRiO office, and the accessibility coordinator for the campus, was recently selected to participate in a year-long leadership institute run by the New England Educational Opportunity Association.

York County Community College and the University of Southern Maine recently announced a partnership to help facilitate the transfer of York County Community College’s two-year associate degree graduates to a four-year bachelor degree program at the University of Southern Maine.

Great Falls Construction, a general contractor in Gorham, recently announced it was awarded a project from the Westbrook Housing Authority, a three-unit commercial/residential condominium building. The three-story building will be located at 917 Main St. in downtown Westbrook.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development announced that the Milo Water District will receive a grant of $306,000 and a loan of $108,000 to develop a new water source and construct a pump station and transmission line. In addition, the Maine Department of Health and Human Services has partnered with Rural Development and will provide $763,000 from the drinking water program.

The Portland Food Cooperative recently announced it has received a donation of a five-year lease for a building at 60 Hampshire St. in Portland from businessman and philanthropist Donald Sussman. The building is expected to be ready for occupancy by the end of 2010.

Putney Inc., a pet pharmaceutical company in Portland, recently announced that Jean Hoffman, founder and CEO, presented at the Jefferies Global SpecPharma and European Healthcare Conference on Oct. 5-6, in London.

Camden National Bank recently celebrated the grand opening of its newest full-service branch located within the Hannaford Supermarket at the Long Bank Shopping Center in Kennebunk.

The Androscoggin Mill in Jay recently earned its ISO 14001 Environmental Management System certification.

The U.S. Army recently awarded a delivery order in the amount of $7.87 million to Source for Native American Products in Princeton. The award is for procurement of 100,000 Navy uniforms.

Maine Buck Nuts in Saco recently sent its product to New York City to be distributed at The News and Documentary Emmy Awards, held Sept. 26-28.

Cynthia Talbot recently announced the opening of CJTalbot Services in Falmouth, which provides project support to environmental and energy consulting firms and governmental entities.

U.S. Cellular recently completed construction of an additional cell site in Orrington to improve call quality in the towns of Orrington and Bucksport, along Routes 1A, 15, and 46.

Mark Woglom and Greg Kirsch, developers of the hotel, restaurant and residential project on the site of the former Jordan’s Meats plant in Portland, recently announced that Sandy Johnson and Gail Landry of Town & Shore Associates are the listing brokers for Portside’s residential condominiums at 207 Fore St.

Landry/French Construction Co. in Scarborough was recently selected as construction manager for the renovation of a 30,000-square-foot building for the Community Counseling Center located at 165 Lancaster St. in Portland. Landry/French Construction Co. was also selected as construction manager to renovate 38,000 spare feet of the former Grand City department store on Maine Street in Brunswick.

The University of New England’s Westbrook College of Health Professions in Portland recently announced that its physician assistant program was awarded a Health Resources and Services Administration Affordable Care Act Grant totaling $990,000.

Spotlight

Maine Medical Center recently opened its Hannaford Center for Safety, Innovation and Simulation, an 18,000-square foot medical simulation learning facility, at the hospital’s Brighton Campus in Portland, according to a press release from the center.

The facility includes operating and trauma rooms, a skills lab, where students practice procedures such as stitching sutures or performing colonoscopies, and patient rooms where students can build their patient communication skills and develop a patient- and family-centered bedside manner. Actors are used to portray patients, and are trained to behave or respond in specific ways during “patient exams.”

The facility also houses a dozen medical, life-like mannequins that breathe, sweat, blink, bleed and exhibit symptoms of minor or major injury, as well as mild- to life-threatening diseases.

The $5.82 million facility was funded in part by a $500,000 donation from The Hannaford Charitable Foundation.

Accolades

The Maine Pharmacy Association recently presented Douglas Kay, the executive associate dean at the University of New England’s College of Pharmacy, with its Pfizer Bowl of Hygeia award.

The Maine Development Foundation recently presented Goodwill Industries of Northern New England with its Champion of Employee Education award.
