Officials at Husson University said the 2,700 applications and high number of deposits received by the first week of May have the private university on track to enroll the largest class in its 118-year history.
“Most people are still not aware that Husson University offers the same great affordable tuition to both in-state and out-of-state residents,” Husson University President Robert A. Clark said in a statement. “As the lowest, net-priced, private, four-year college in Maine accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Husson is an attractive choice for anyone seeking a great professional education at an affordable price.”
According to university officials, student applications from other states in New England increased by over 17%. A quarter of the fall 2016 entering class is expected to come from out-of-state.
International applications also tripled this year — as applications have been received from hopeful students from 33 nations.
But applications from prospective Husson students only tell part of the story. The 14% increase in enrollment deposits from the previous year provides a clearer picture of how many students are likely to attend in the fall 2016 semester.
“Husson’s continued growth, particularly during the last decade, has been phenomenal. Over the last four years, we have made strategic investments that built on this success and allowed us to expand our reach into new markets,” Jonathan Henry, Husson’s vice president of enrollment management, said in a statement. “The fact that we have already exceeded our fall 2016 enrollment forecast is proof that there is demand for the professional degree programs available at Husson University.”
