Jay paper machine to shut down

Wausau Paper today said it would permanently shutdown one of the two paper machines at its Jay mill, impacting 150 of the mill's 235 employees.

Wausau Paper, based in Mosinee, Wis., will shutdown the Number 10 paper machine at its mill in Jay, which manufactures specialty paper products, on or prior to December 31, according to a press release from the company. The Number 10 machine has the capacity to produce 40,000 tons of paper a year.

Wausau, which had record revenue of $1.2 billion in its 2007 fiscal year, said the shutdown was in response to dramatically increased input costs and difficult market conditions.
