Looks like a jeweler with sites in Maine and New Hampshire won’t have to pay up on its holiday promotion.
Seacoast Online reported that Springer’s Jewelers sold more than $900,000 worth of jewelry to 400 customers through its “Let it snow” promotion, which promised the goods would be free if it snowed six inches or more on Christmas.
On Christmas day, with the blizzard raging, phones rang off the hook at the National Weather Service’s Gray office, Seacoast Online reported.
But the jeweler announced on its website Wednesday that the official snowfall at its Portsmouth, N.H., store was 4.3 inches — less than the minimum of six inches required.
The snowfall was verified by Weather Analytics LLC, which has an office in Dover, N.H.
Springer’s has stores in Portland, Bath and Portsmouth. It’s the company’s eleventh year doing the promotion.
