Journal Tribune drops Monday print edition
The Biddeford-based Journal Tribune reported it would discontinue its printed Monday edition in order to focus on enhancing its Monday digital edition.
"The sharp increase of online news through smartphones and social media has led to unprecedented demand for our digital content and led to this decision,” publisher Devin Hamilton said in a statement on the publication’s website.
The newspaper will continue to publish print editions Tuesday through Sunday.
The shift is in line with trends reported by the Pew Research Center, which said that in 2015, “the online audience for newspapers continued its shift to mobile devices.”
Overall, though, the newspaper industry — both print and digital — is shrinking, with Editor & Publisher’s DataBook listing 126 fewer daily papers in 2014 than in 2004, Pew reported.
