Kennebec Savings Bank opened its new electronic banking and loan center in Freeport on Thursday, marking the occasion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by local officials and donations to Wolfe’s Neck Farm and Freeport Community Services.
The renovated 3,000-square-foot building at 181 Lower Main St. is located on Route 1 between the Pet Pantry and Gritty McDuff's Brew Pub. Bank customers will be able to electronically deposit checks, view account history, transfer funds and pay bills at the location, which also will be a loan office for both residential and commercial real estate for properties in Freeport and the surrounding area.
The electronic banking and loan center is the first expansion for the 147-year-old bank outside of Kennebec County.
"We are very excited to open our new location and become a part of this vibrant community in the greater Freeport area," Bill Hill, Kennebec Savings Bank’s vice president and loan officer, said in a news release. “We are looking forward to building our reputation in the community on the two things we do best, provide outstanding customer service and give back to the community."
As part of the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Hill presented $2,500 checks to Freeport Community Services and Wolfe's Neck Farm. Since announcing the new location in Freeport, the bank has donated more than $20,000 to local organizations and nonprofits.
"Freeport is thrilled to welcome Kennebec Savings Bank to town because they are a strong, Maine-based bank with a reputation for being wonderful community members,” Keith McBride, executive director of Freeport Economic Development Corp., said in a release.” Already they have made the small building on Lower Main Street their own through some beautiful landscaping, and we look forward to having them provide excellent service to Freeport businesses and homeowners for years to come.”
Kennebec Savings Bank is an $905 million state-chartered community bank, with 121 employees and offices in Augusta, Waterville, Winthrop and Farmingdale, as well as 24-hour electronic banking centers in Manchester, Augusta, Farmingdale and, now, Freeport.
