KVCC president Woodlee retiring

Barbara Woodlee is retiring as president of Kennebec Valley Community College after 26 years at the post.

Woodlee, 63, announced on Friday she will step down as the head of the Fairfield college on July 30 in order to spend more time with her family and on volunteer activities, according to the Kennebec Journal. During her tenure, the school grew from fewer than 300 students in 1984 to 2,200; another 2,000 students have graduated from the college's non-credit and training courses, Maine Community College System President John Fitzsimmons told the paper. Woodlee will continue to serve the school as a part-time academic officer overseeing the board of trustees' academic policies, among other responsibilities.

KVCC plans to begin searching for a replacement next month, with hopes to bring the new person on board in time for the 2010-2011 academic year, according to the paper.
