Trust to fight Aroostook wind farm

A land trust that owns property abutting a proposed wind farm in Oakfield is planning to appeal its recent approval.

The Martha A. Powers Land Trust, which owns land in the northern Maine town and neighboring Island Falls, will appeal the Department of Environmental Protection's approval of the 34-turbine wind farm, according to the Bangor Daily News. Rufus Brown, an attorney for the land trust, said the trust objects to the project because of concerns over noise, visual impact and reduction in land values.

The DEP last Thursday approved the wind farm, proposed by Evergreen Wind, a subsidiary of First Wind.
