L/A growth council names Holden’s interim successor
Nearly two months after the resignation of John Holden, the Lewiston Auburn Economic Growth Council has named an interim leader.
Stephanie A. Lewis of Auburn was named by the board as interim president.
Holden stepped down in early November, months after the Auburn City Council voted not to fund its share of the growth council’s operations. The organization has been operating on funds provided by the city of Lewiston.
LAEGC’s mission is to get companies to start, expand or relocate to L/A.
“I suppose there may be a temporary advantage gained by some politicians to play up divisions in these two cities, but in the long run, the rest of us will lose,” Lewis said in a news release. “We may be two cities on the map, but we are one economy, and we should be working together to grow it.”
Lewis has been with the organization for 17 years, serving most recently as vice president and chief financial officer.
“We’re indeed fortunate to have someone like Stephanie, with her deep institutional knowledge and strong relationships on both sides of the river, to lead LAEGC as it moves forward in a very challenging environment,” said board President Rebecca Swanson Conrad of Auburn.
Holden joined LAEGC in January 2015. Prior to that he had led economic development efforts in Rockland.
