Lachance to leave MDF to lead Thomas College
Laurie Lachance is leaving her job as head of the Maine Development Foundation to become the next president of Thomas College, where she earned an MBA. She becomes the Waterville college's first female president.
The college's trustees announced Friday Lachance will replace George Spann, who will retire in June after 23 years, according to the Morning Sentinel. Lachance, a former state economist, has led MDF for nearly eight years. She told the paper that the new post is another step in a career devoted to growing Maine businesses and the economy. She said she'll focus on ensuring the college's educational offerings help serve Maine businesses, and she also hopes to further Thomas' partnerships with nearby Colby College in Waterville and Kennebec Valley Community College in Fairfield.
In January 2011, Thomas unveiled a 15-year strategic plan led by Spann that includes nearly doubling the size of its campus and its full-time enrollment to 1,400.
