LePage names new senior health policy adviser

Gov. Paul LePage announced Thursday that Nick Adolphsen has joined the Office of the Governor as his senior health policy adviser. In that role, Adolphsen will advise the governor on health care and health insurance-related legislation and regulation.

Adolphsen previously served as director of government relations and policy for the Maine Department of Health and Human Services, where he’s worked since 2011 managing and developing legislation, budget proposals and implementing newly approved public laws. He replaces David Sorensen, who now serves as speechwriter for President Donald Trump.

“I have been very pleased with the expertise Nick has brought to our office already and expect him to continue to play a significant role in health care policy moving forward,” LePage said in a news release announcing the appointment.

The Governor’s Office stated in the release that Adolphsen will advise LePage as the debate in Congress continues over the Republican plans to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act.

Prior to his work at the DHHS, Adolphsen worked in the Maine House of Representatives Republican Office on behalf of 13 state representatives as a point of contact for constituents, resolving constituent matters involving various state agencies and local government officials, and provided detailed information on legislation.

He also was campaign manager for Maine state Senate candidates in 2010.
