Marquis will transition to the role of president effective March 1, and then to president and CEO upon Ardito’s retirement in June.

Ardito joined cPort as president and CEO in 2004. During his tenure, the credit union has expanded from two branches to five with a sixth under construction in Lewiston. Membership has more than doubled, from 15,000 to 35,000. Assets have grown from $88 million to $420 million, while the cPort team went from 36 employees to 116 on his watch.

On behalf of the credit union's board, chair Scott Paquet praised Ardito for 21 years of leadership and dedication.

"His vision and commitment have driven remarkable growth, modernization, and a culture of excellence that will continue to shape our future,” Paquet said. “We are incredibly thankful for his contributions and wish him all the best in his well-earned retirement."

'Experience at every level'

In an "On the Record" interview with Mainebiz published in 2018, Ardito said that talent is the key to cPort's success.

"We give our employees a pathway to career success, so we hire smart, talented people who want to grow with us," he said at the time. "When an opportunity presents itself, we promote them."

In Tuesday's announcement about the leadership transition, Ardito said that his successor's "experience at every level of the organization has given her unique insight into the needs of our members and the opportunities ahead."

“As president and CEO," he noted, "she will be responsible for executing cPort’s strategic vision, ensuring operational excellence, and continuing to strengthen our position as a leader in Maine’s credit union community."

Marquis started at cPort as a teller in 2010 after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Bryant University in Smithfield, R.I. She went on to earn her MBA in Leadership from Saint Joseph’s College of Maine in Standish.

Among the largest credit unions based in Maine, cPort Credit Union is ranked No. 10 in the 2025 Mainebiz Book of Lists. Rankings are based on total assets as of Sept. 30, 2024.
