Maine 38th in foreclosure rate

Maine had 2,851 properties with foreclosure filings last year, which translates to a foreclosure rate during 2008 of 0.41%.

That places the state 38th in the country, according to California-based RealtyTrac's most recent U.S. Foreclosure Market Report. Vermont, with a 0.04% foreclosure rate, was the only New England state that fared better than Maine.

The hardest hit states were Nevada, with a foreclosure rate of 7.29%; Florida, with a foreclosure rate of 4.52%; and Arizona, with a rate of 4.49%.
