Maine College of Art & Design adds 4 members to its board of directors

The Maine College of Art & Design in Portland has expanded its leadership team with the addition of four members to its board of trustees. 

The new board members bring knowledge and experience across various fields, including philanthropy, business, technology and art, according to the college.

Charles “Sandy” Butterfield

"Our new trustees bring vital expertise to our board," said Laura Freid, president of the Maine College of Art & Design.

"Their experience and perspectives will help us build upon the college's remarkable success and momentum as we implement our strategic plan."

Board bios

Charles “Sandy” Butterfield is the founder and current president of Boulder Wind Consulting. Before his work as a consultant, Butterfield co-founded Boulder Wind Power, a startup company that developed an innovative direct drive generator technology.

He spent over 24 years at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, most recently as chief engineer at NREL’s National Wind Test Center and leader of the Gearbox Reliability Collaborative. Butterfield is chairman of the International Electrotechnical Commission on Renewable Energy and a former Board Member of the American Wind Energy Association.

Jeana Cho

Jeana Cho is a lawyer and former vice president of marketing and sales at Knours, a beauty brand specializing in skin care products to support women’s skin throughout their life cycles.

She has 14 years of experience leading large-scale business innovations. Cho was an associate professor of fashion business management at New York University from 2009 to 2012. She supports the Korean American Community Foundation and has served on the board of the Falmouth Education Foundation.

Stacey Dietsch

Stacey Dietsch joined Liberty Mutual Insurance in January 2024 as executive vice president of talent pipeline. In this role, she leads the end-to-end talent lifecycle programs, from strategic workforce planning, talent attraction and onboarding to learning and development, performance management and career growth.

Prior to joining the insurance company, Dietsch was a partner in McKinsey's People & Organizational Performance Practice. During her 19 years at McKinsey, she worked with clients across various industries.

Sue Lambe

Sue Lambe is a licensed landscape architect with a demonstrated history of working in the arts and design industries. Early in her career, she had a landscape architecture practice, which included designing Post Office Park in Portland and honoring Portland's "sister city" relationship with Shinagawa, Japan.

Lambe co-designed the plaza at the Margaret Chase Smith Federal Building in Bangor with Studioverde, incorporating locally sourced materials to suggest water, movement and light. The Yarmouth resident directed the Art in Public Places Program for the City of Austin, Texas, supporting more than 150 artists with their public art commissions.

The Maine College of Art & Design was founded in 1882 and is the oldest arts educational institution in Maine.
