The Maine College of Art & Design in Portland has promoted Laura Retherford to vice president of development.
Retherford joined the college in November 2022 and, in her expanded capacity, will continue to lead its development team in support of its annual and strategic fundraising goals.
"Laura has shown tremendous leadership and helped to position the college within reach of our strategic goals," said Laura Freid, president of the Maine College of Art. "She has a remarkable ability to galvanize our community of supporters around our mission through her infectious commitment to our goals. We are lucky to have Laura at the helm and look forward to working with her towards the next phase of our plan.
Retherford has held leadership and/or fundraising roles at the ACLU of Maine, Portland Symphony Orchestra and Girls Inc. of Wayne County (Ind.). She received her bachelor's degree in art history from the College of Wooster in Ohio.
“I am continuously blown away by the dedication and commitment of MECA&D students and inspired by the quality of teaching and deep learning the faculty provides,” said Retherford. “It is a privilege to support the college in offering transformative opportunities to students who, in turn, give back to so many in both Maine and across the country.”
The Maine College of Art & Design was founded in 1882 and is the oldest arts educational institution in Maine.
