The Maine Community Foundation has launched a grant program that will provide awards of up to $15,000 for Maine communities and nonprofit organizations to increase broadband internet access.
The Community Broadband Grant program aims to increase the number of Maine residents, businesses and municipalities with access to high-speed internet service, while improving use of the technology, the foundation said in a news release.
The program accommodates a wide range of projects, such as community meetings to assess internet needs, research for local broadband planning, and the creation of Wi-Fi hotspots.
The MCF will hold an information session about the grants in August, and the deadline for applying is Oct. 15. Grants will be announced in December, and must be used during 2019.
More information about the program, including details to be posted about the information session, can be found at www.mainecf.org.
