Maine health coalition chief takes national post

Elizabeth Mitchell, CEO of the Maine Health Management Coalition, will move on to lead a national network with the same goals of improving the quality and reducing the cost of health care.

Mitchell, who has led MHMC since 2008, will begin her new job as president and CEO of the Network for Regional Healthcare Improvement on May 1. Until that time she'll work at MHMC part-time, according to a press release.

During her tenure with MHMC, Mitchell has led the collaborative that brings together employers with health care providers and insurers in an effort to bring more transparency to the quality and cost of health care in the state. It does that through a website at getbettermaine.org, which gives quality rankings for Maine hospitals and most primary-care providers.

Earlier this year, the federal government announced that MHMC was one of six recipients of a $33 million grant to expand its work. This summer, the organization will also be one of just four in the country to receive Medicare data that it will incorporate into its public reporting of health care quality and cost statistics.

The MHMC board of directors has begun a national search for a replacement and appointed Michael DeLorenzo as interim CEO.
