Halfway through the 2017 Maine Hire-A-Vet Campaign, more than 120 employers have joined the effort and reported 61 hires, the Maine Department of Labor announced on Monday.
The annual initiative, launched on Labor Day, provides support for employers to expand hiring of veterans with a 100-day goal of getting 100 employers to hire at least 100 veterans and military family members.
“Through the Hire-A-Vet Campaign, more employers are discovering the value veterans bring to their workforce,” Gov. Paul LePage said in a press release.
He added: “Whether you are a veteran or an employer, we urge you to connect with this campaign to help us meet Maine’s workforce needs. Veterans’ skills include teamwork, leadership, technology and tremendous discipline that can benefit all of our businesses.”
The Maine Hire-A-Vet Campaign is co-sponsored by the Maine Department of Labor and its CareerCenters, Boots2Roots, Easter Seals and their Veterans Count Program, Live + Work in Maine, the Maine Bureau of Veterans Services, Transition Assistance Advisors, Veterans Administration Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment, Veterans Inc. and Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment.
Jen Fullmer, a U.S. Air Force veteran who serves as executive director for Boots2Roots, a nonprofit that helps returning veterans find employment in Maine, will be among 13 Mainebiz Next List honorees to be feted at a reception in Portland this Thursday.
