Maine MEP promotes from within for next president

The Maine Manufacturing Extension Partnership has promoted its operations manager to president.

Jim Fay will succeed retiring president Larry Robinson, with a four-month transition period. He will take over as president on Nov. 20.

“I look forward to building upon the successful foundation established under Robinson’s leadership on behalf of the manufacturers we serve,” said Fay.

Maine MEP is a program of the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development and an affiliate of the National Institute of Standards and Technology within the U.S. Department of Commerce. The national MEP system is a network of manufacturing extension centers that provide technical assistance to smaller manufacturers throughout the U.S.

Fay has served with Maine MEP as a senior project manager and then as its operations manager since 2018.

As operations manager, he led the Maine MEP field staff in efforts to foster manufacturing innovation and economic growth. Fay brought over two decades of experience working at leading manufacturers, including the plant manager for DR Power Equipment in Winooski, Vt., and as site leader at the Owens Corning facility in Brunswick.

“Since joining the organization as a senior project manager in 2018, Jim has assisted Maine MEP clients in achieving more than $100 million in investments, cost savings, and revenue growth. He has an extensive knowledge of Maine’s manufacturing sector and a proven track record of success," said Kristine Logan, who is board chair.

Fay is a graduate of the University of Maine. He served as an adjunct faculty member with the Vermont Technical College and has earned various professional and industry certifications including Lean Bronze Facilitator, Operations Excellence Leadership, and Management Excellence.

“Maine MEP’s succession planning has ensured that Jim is knowledgeable about the center and is ready to assume the duties of president,” said Logan. “He will be responsible for the strategic vision of Maine MEP, managing the statewide field staff and ensuring that the organization delivers leading-edge programs and services to help Maine manufacturers achieve world-class performance.”
