Maine small business centers helped 2,200 clients in 2024

Advisors with the Maine Small Business Development Centers helped more than 2,200 entrepreneurs and small businesses across the state in 2024, the group said in its latest annual report released this week.

The centers provide no-cost, confidential business advice to clients.

In 2024, advisors logged nearly 8,800 hours helping clients start 132 new businesses, save and create 526 jobs, and access $34 million in funding.

"Maine’s small businesses continue to demonstrate resilience, determination and a drive for success,” said Maine SBDC State Director Mark Delisle.

“Our 2024 annual report reflects their achievements and the critical role the Maine SBDC plays in providing expert guidance to help them navigate challenges, capitalize on opportunities and build stronger businesses,” he added. “We are proud to support Maine’s entrepreneurs in their journey toward long-term growth and stability,"

Success stories highlighted in the report include helping the owners of Brunwick-based Ferda Farms secure financing, including a loan and grant from the Island Institute to implement solar and battery power solutions for the oyster farm.

Another client was Anik Derphilibossian, a Lebanese immigrant whose Dreamer Food truck made its debut on the Bangor waterfront last May.
