Maine Street Station project nets grant

The town of Brunswick has been awarded a federal grant of more than $900,000 to fund the Maine Street Station project.

The $902,500 grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration will fund road and utility infrastructure construction at the development, according to a press release from U.S. Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins. The town originally expected to find out by last October if it would receive the grant, but delays in passing a federal budget stalled the process, according to The Times Record. The funding delay forced developer JHR Development of Maine to halt some work on the project, until the Department of Commerce issued a letter on March 17 allowing advance work to begin before the grant was officially awarded.

The Maine Street Station project, already under construction, is slated to include mixed-use retail, restaurant and office space, as well as a train station and inn.
