Maine Water Co., a public water utility, has named a chief operator for the Saco River Drinking Water Resources Center, the primary water source for customers in southern Maine.
Joseph Dignam will lead the day-to-day operations and ensure that the water produced by the state-of-art resource center meets state and federal standards for drinking water.
He has over 12 years of experience working at local water utilities. Dignam joined the company earlier this year and was in charge of the operations of the f the Berwick Water System. Before joining Maine Water, he worked in several roles for the York Water District.
“Joe joined Maine Water earlier this year and has consistently demonstrated leadership and resourcefulness in serving customers, communities, employees, and the environment,” said Mark Vannoy, president of Maine Water. “He models our values of service and teamwork. We are eager for him to lead our team of highly qualified and passionate water treatment professionals at the Resource Center.”
The York resident holds a Class IV water treatment and distribution license from Maine’s drinking water program. He also received his bachelor’s in environmental policy and planning from the University of Maine at Farmington.
In 2014, Dignam received the Myron E. Starbird Award for excellence in geography, environmental planning, and policy. This award is open to graduating seniors who have excelled in geography at UMF.
Maine Water includes 12 public water systems that collect, treat and distribute drinking water for homes, businesses and fire protection services, and serves around 85,000 people in 21 communities.
