Workers at three companies in Portland and Auburn who lost their jobs are now eligible for federal Trade Adjustment Assistance funding, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
The affected workers were employed at: Parker Hannifin Corp., Nichols Portland Division in Portland, as well as on-site leased workers of Bonney Staffing Services and R-Tech, which makes hydraulic pump components; Formed Fiber Technologies Inc. in Auburn, including on-site leased workers from Adecco, which makes automotive trunk liners; and Riley Medical in Auburn, a division of Symmetry Medical, including on-site leased workers from Kelly Services and Manpower, which makes sterilization containers for the medical industry.
It was unclear how many workers at Nichols Portland Division and Riley Medical are eligible to apply for the TAA funding, which provides retraining for new job skills to workers whose jobs were outsourced overseas due to foreign competition. Mainebiz reported that Formed Fiber Technologies laid off 152 workers in March 2009 and 80 of those workers were eligible for more than $300,000 in TAA funds.
