MaineGeneral Health will consolidate 180 employees from three locations to expand its presence at Waterville’s Hathaway Creative Center as part of the hospital’s larger restructuring efforts.
The Kennebec Journal reported the move, to take place next July, will put 330 of the hospital’s employees in Waterville. The Hathaway Center already hosts 150 of the hospital network’s employees.
The reorganization plan includes closing MaineGeneral’s Augusta hospital on East Chestnut Street and redesigning its Thayer campus in Waterville to focus on outpatient services.
The timeline for the relocation follows the scheduled completion of the $312 million Alfond Center for Health later this year and the start of a $10 million renovation of the Thayer Center for Health in Waterville in late 2014.
Paul Boghossian, developer of the Hathaway Center, told the paper the move will bring the total number of people working or living at the redeveloped shirt factory to over 600.
