Maine’s home sales rise 9% in July

Sales of existing single-family homes in Maine rose 9% in July over a year ago, but the median sales price dipped by nearly 4%, according to a report released Thursday by the Maine Association of Realtors.

The group reported 1,086 homes were sold in July, up from 994 in July 2011.

The statewide median sales price of those homes was $171,000, down from $177,500 a year earlier.

For the three-month period from May through July, the number of homes sold fell in only one of Maine's 16 counties, Piscataquis County. The highest-priced houses were in Cumberland County, with an average 2012 sale price of $231,000, while the lowest were in Piscataquis County, with a 2012 average of $79,950.
