Marden's cements Scarborough store

Marden's Surplus & Salvage has sealed the deal to open its largest store in Scarborough.

The Maine-based retailer closed on the former Walmart site on Payne Road Thursday, Ham Marden, the company's president, told the Portland Press Herald. The sale price was not disclosed. The 119,000-square-foot store will be the largest of Marden's 15 locations, and could open by March.

The company has been in negotiations to buy the property since August and had planned to open by the end of this year, but the last-minute discovery of costly traffic-related town requirements at the site delayed the process.
