McGowan cleared of wrongdoing

Patrick McGowan, commissioner of the Maine Department of Conservation, has been cleared of wrongdoing regarding accusations that he used a department plane to assist with a moose hunt.

The state DOC on Friday said the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service had ended its investigation of the accusation that McGowan violated the Airborne Hunting Act last year, according to a press release from the DOC. The federal government won't bring charges against McGowan, the release said.

McGowan was accused of using a plane to help hunters find moose on Sunday, September 23, 2007. Under the Airborne Hunting Act, it is illegal to use aircraft to hunt or harass wildlife.
