ME, Canada to collaborate on ocean energy

Gov. John Baldacci yesterday signed an agreement with Nova Scotia Premier Darrell Dexter aimed at boosting collaboration in ocean energy initiatives.

The memorandum of understanding calls for the state and the Canadian province to share information on tidal and offshore wind energy research and find ways to collaborate by bringing together researchers, policy makers and private companies from both areas, according to a press release from the governor's office. Included in the agreement is a joint tidal energy symposium, planned for next year in Nova Scotia. The agreement was signed during the 34th Conference of the New England Governors and Eastern Canadian Premiers held in Lenox, Mass.

Baldacci also signed an agreement with New Brunswick Premier Shawn Graham to establish a Maine-cultural initiative, which includes the World Acadian Congress, planned for 2014, according to another press release.
