International medical products maker Molnlycke Health Care is considering opening a $12 million manufacturing facility at the redeveloped Brunswick Naval Air Station.
The Sweden-based company announced yesterday it could occupy a 7,800-square-foot building by the end of 2011, generating about 100 jobs, according to the Portland Press Herald. The building would include laboratories, offices, warehouse and R&D departments. Molnlycke is the parent company of medical foam manufacturer Rynel Inc. in Wiscasset, and would use the foam to make wound care products in Brunswick, according to the paper. Molnlycke, which employs 6,700 people around the world, has not made a final decision on the project, and it would still need permits from state and local officials.
Kestrel Aircraft is already planning to open at BNAS and eventually create 300 jobs, and two Brunswick-based businesses have also expressed interest in locating at the base, known now as Brunswick Landing.
