Moosehead Manufacturing to reopen

Moosehead Manufacturing is back in business, seven months after the company closed due to foreign competition.

Joshua Tardy, Republican leader of the Maine House of Representatives, and Dana Connors, president of the Maine State Chamber of Commerce, are buying the furniture manufacturer, which had locations in Monson and Dover-Foxcroft. Tardy-Connors LLC hopes to restart the Monson operation in the next 30 days and rehire 40 of the 60 people laid off from facility in February.

The state also is hoping to turn the Dover-Foxcroft facility into a multi-use complex, but state representatives didn't disclose details of that plan. Tardy and Connors said they hope the quality of Moosehead's product will help it compete with foreign imports, according to a press release.
