Most of this downtown Bangor block could be yours

The majority of a block in downtown Bangor could be yours for $1.95 million.

The Bangor Daily News reported that six interconnected buildings on Exchange Street between the intersections of State and York streets are being sold by an LLC launched by Eaton W. Tarbell Jr., the son of a Bangor architect of the same name who died in 1992.

According to the BDN, the block includes the former headquarters of Bangor Hydro Electric Co. The block has been largely vacant for over a decade.

Tanya Emery, Bangor’s economic development director, said the city is excited about what a new owner could bring to the property, which encompasses 53,000-square-feet of usable space.

“I can actually see this building from my office window, so I’ve gazed at it long enough to wonder who will bring it back to life,” Emery told the BDN. “The city is excited to see what comes next.”

The BDN reported that altogether, the half-dozen buildings were assessed by the city to have a value of $1.72 million, while the land is assessed at $269,100.
