MPBN nets $750K USDA grant

The Maine Public Broadcasting Network has won a $750,000 digital transition grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Development Program, which granted awards to only 10 projects in the latest round of funding.

In a press release, the USDA announced the award that will pay for radio infrastructure upgrades throughout the state, replacing 26 of the station's analog microwave transmitters and 28 microwave receivers in the next year.

The USDA has provided the statewide public radio and television station with $3.28 million in the past 10 years for investments that included computer equipment, software and high-definition television upgrades.
