The brewery craze continues with the construction of Mason’s Brewing Co. in Brewer, the Bangor Daily News reported.
Mason’s Brewing, which will be in a former public works garage at 15 Hardy St., is expected to open at the end of April. It is being opened by homebrewer Christopher Morley, who is a mortgage development officer at Bangor Savings Bank, the BDN reported.
Maine has 64 craft breweries, with the Maine Brewers' Guild predicting upwards of 80 by the end of 2016. The sector has also fostered an ecosystem of support services and products, such as malt houses, graphics companies, glass providers, beer tours, insurers, an Occupational Safety and Health Administration consultant, banks, lawyers and compressed gas providers. In 2013, Maine's breweries sold $92.6 million worth of beer and employed nearly 1,500 workers, according to a May 2014 Maine Brewers' Guild economic impact study.
Nicole Gogan, Brewer’s deputy director of economic development, told the BDN the new brewery, which eventually will include a restaurant, is being built by the Ellsworth construction firm E.L. Shea.
