New hires, promotions, appointments and company news

New hires

Penobscot Community Health Care in Bangor recently announced the addition of four new general practice dental residents: Shaival Patel, David Miller, Emily Horcha and Nikhil Mallick. The health care center also recently announced that pediatrician Ellen Lauer has joined the medical staff of Penobscot Pediatrics; Kelly Palchik has been named the director of the dental practice located within Helen Hunt Health Center; and Dana Green has joined the staff of its specialty department to provide diabetes care.

Thayer Corp. in Auburn recently hired Joe Pearson as an energy solutions specialist. Pearson, a 20-year veteran of the HVAC/refrigeration industry, will be a team member of mechanical and maintenance sales.

EXIT Key Real Estate in Shapleigh recently announced that Elaine Sweeney affiliated with the agency as a licensed broker. Sweeney was most recently the co-owner of Sweeney and Schulz of Weston, Mass.

CEI Capital Management LLC, a provider of New Market Tax Credits, recently hired Patricia Brosseau as executive assistant and David McKinnell as asset and relationship manager. Previously, Brosseau was the assistant to the president for Gulf of Maine Research Institute in Portland. McKinnell was previously with PowerPay as a risk analyst.

Verrill Dana, a law firm in Portland, recently hired Christopher Lockman in its bankruptcy and creditors’ rights group. Lockman was previously a law clerk with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania.

SymQuest Group, a provider of network and document technology services in Westbrook, recently announced two new hires: Lou Dearborn was added to the document sales team and Scott Poland was hired as a warehouse specialist. Dearborn brings more than 15 years of business-to-business sales to his new position and seven years of document management experience. Poland’s responsibilities will include processing and maintaining efficiency in the department.

Drummond Woodsum, a law firm in Portland, recently hired Lisa Magnacca following her graduation from the University of Maine School of Law. Magnacca, previously a judicial extern with Judge Kermit Lipez of the First Circuit Court of Appeals and an extern with the Appellate Division of the United States Attorney’s office in Portland, will focus primarily on business and commercial law matters.

Bernstein Shur, a law firm based in Portland, recently hired Meredith Eilers in the firm’s litigation group. Previously, Eilers served as a judicial clerk for Associate Justice Jon D. Levy of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court.

Winxnet, a Portland-based IT service supplier, recently hired Eric Fernald as a network engineer. Fernald, previously a network architect for SystemArchitecture.net, has more than six years of professional IT experience.

Onpoint Health Data, a data aggregation and analytic services organization in Portland, recently hired Adam Moody and Katie McGraves-Lloyd. Moody, most recently the information project director at Unum, was hired as director of analytic operations. McGraves-Lloyd was hired as a health data analyst.

Dr. Newton’s Naturals, a South Portland firm offering natural health products, recently hired Joe Mango as the catalog specialist for the marketing department. Mango was most recently with Penntext.com.

BerryDunn, a CPA and management consulting firm in Portland, recently hired Amy Baum and Rebecca Isaacs. Baum, previously at VTEC Training, is a data coordinator in the firm’s marketing group. Isaacs, previously with Gibbons & Kawash, was hired as a tax manager in the firm’s tax consulting and compliance group.

Kennebec Savings Bank recently announced Katie Coughlin Vickers has been hired as vice president and commercial banking officer. Vickers’ primary responsibility will be cash management and small business relationships.

Harbor Family Services recently hired Susan Lidstone and Layla Billings to join its psychiatric care and medication management program in Rockport, Northport and Damariscotta. Lidstone will be seeing adult patients while Billings will be seeing children in both Northport and Rockport offices.

The Acadia Hospital recently announced the hiring of three new psychiatrists: Dilek Avci, Linda Call and Nathan Valentine. Avci, a child and adolescent psychiatrist, will work in pediatric outpatient services; Call, also a child and adolescent psychiatrist, will spend her time on the child/adolescent inpatient unit and Valentine, an adult psychiatrist, will work on the hospital’s adult inpatient unit.

Northeast Transport Inc., a Maine-based truckload carrier specializing in refrigerated transportation, recently hired Rob Bisset as fleet manager. Bisset formerly worked with PEP Transportation and Fisher Engineering.

Eaton Peabody recently hired Melissa Pawloski as an associate. Pawloski will focus on corporate and general business transactional matters as well as business succession and trust and estate planning.

Berman & Simmons recently hired Timothy Kenlan. Kenlan’s practice will focus on helping injured clients.

The Opportunity Alliance, an outpatient mental health clinic headquartered in Portland, recently hired Constance Jordan as its medical director. Jordan will oversee the agency’s outpatient clinic and medication management program serving individuals living with mental illness and co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders at its Monument Square location.

Norway Savings Bank recently announced the hiring of Tavia Wirths, Jason Fitzgerald and Sharon Breytenbach. Wirths is vice president, internal audit manager and compliance officer in the bank’s main office in Norway.  Fitzgerald was hired as an associate vice president, branch manager for the Kennebunk branch, scheduled to open at the end of the year. Breytenbach was hired as associate vice president, accounting.

The Brunswick Downtown Association recently hired Debra King as executive director. King was previously the executive director of the Greater Freeport Chamber of Commerce.

KeyBank recently announced that Virginia Christine Beacham was named manager for the Belfast branch. Beacham, previously the manager of the bank’s Camden branch.

Compass Project recently hired Holly Parker as program supervisor. Parker was previously a crew member with Maine Sailing Adventures.

Promotions

CEI Capital Management LLC, a provider of New Market Tax Credits, recently announced that Traci Vaine was promoted to chief compliance officer. Vaine was previously the senior compliance and asset manager.

Bangor Savings Bank recently announced that Susan Lewis Hodgkins was promoted to senior vice president. Hodgkins, the senior commercial portfolio and administrative manager, provides oversight of the bank’s commercial portfolio, works with the risk management and commercial credit underwriting groups and oversees the administration of the bank’s commercial customer base.

Appointments

The Maine State Housing Authority recently welcomed John Gallagher as its new director. Gallagher is MaineHousing’s 11th director since the quasi-independent governmental entity was created in 1969.

The Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce recently named Staci Coomer executive director. Coomer, who holds the professional designation of a certified fund raising executive, was previously the executive director of Hope Network.

The Maine Lobster Promotion Council Board of Directors recently appointed Marianne LaCroix as acting executive director. LaCroix, the council’s director of marketing for the past six years, will serve in the interim capacity until the Maine Legislature weighs a proposal that would create a new lobster marketing entity later this winter.

The Maine Land Use Planning Commission announced that William Gilmore and Michael Theriault were recently sworn in as new commissioners. Gilmore has been employed for the past 27 years with the town of Carrabassett Valley as its tax assessor, code enforcement officer and plumbing inspector. Theriault has owned and operated his own business, Mike Theriault Construction LLC, since 1996. Both are scheduled to serve on the commission until July 2016.

Make-A-Wish Maine recently appointed Adam Dunbar to its board of directors. Dunbar is vice president of investments at Wells Fargo Advisors LLC in Portland and also serves on the Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.  Beth Goodrich also joined the foundation’s board.

The board of directors at One Longfellow Square recently appointed Kippy Rudy as the executive director of the Portland-based nonprofit that supports live performances and arts education. Rudy was previously general manager at PORTopera; marketing and development director at Portland Stage; and director of corporate and foundation relations at the Portland Museum of Art.

Accolades

The Scarborough Economic Development Corp.’s board of directors recently announced the recipients of this year’s Outstanding Scarborough Business awards. Winners included: James A. McBrady Inc., Outstanding Legacy Business; Mainely Wraps, Outstanding New Business; Katahdin Analytical Services, Outstanding Technology Business; Nonesuch Oysters, Outstanding Micro Business; Scarborough Community Chamber, Outstanding Contribution to Community and Partners for World Health, Outstanding Non-profit Award.

Amy Cotton, a nurse practitioner and director of operations and senior service quality for EMHS Continuum of Care, was recently selected for induction into the Fellowship of the American Academy of Nursing. The academy’s 1,800 fellows are leaders in education, practice and research within the nursing profession.

Pet Product News International recently named Loyal Biscuit Co., an independent dog and cat supply company headquartered in Rockland, as one of 12 honorable mentions awarded during its 2012-2013 Retailer of the Year awards.

Pierce Atwood, a law firm based in Portland, recently announced that 10 of its attorneys earned the Lawyer of the Year status in 10 different practice areas by The Best Lawyers in America 2013.

Ocean Renewable Power Co., Efficiency Maine and the Chewonki Foundation were recently presented with the first-ever E2 Can Do! awards by the Environmental and Energy Technology Council of Maine at its 10th anniversary event. The three organizations were recognized for their demonstrated leadership in the business sector, public sector and education.

KeyBank recently selected Susan Doliner, vice president for development at Maine Medical Center, as the Key4Women Achieve Award winner. Doliner has built a distinguished career in philanthropy, including shaping one of Maine’s most comprehensive development programs at the state’s largest hospital.

Maine Coast Construction, an industrial, commercial and residential building contractor in Camden, was recently recognized as one of the top builders in the Northeast by Varco Pruden Building at its annual meeting held in Portsmouth, N.H.

Hilton Worldwide recently announced that its Hilton Garden Inn hotel brand, which includes two locations in Portland and one in Freeport, achieved the highest ranking in the Upscale Segment of the J.D. Power and Associates 2012 North America Hotel Guest Satisfaction Index StudySM.

Verrill Dana, a law firm based in Portland, was recently honored with a WebAward from the Web Marketing Association for its website redesign project, completed in April 2011. The site was recognized with the Legal Standard of Excellence award for website redesign.

Drummond Woodsum, a Portland law firm recently announced 28 of its shareholders were included in Best Lawyers in America 2013.

The Maine State Web Portal, www.Maine.gov, recently received national recognition from the Center for Digital Government as one of the best state government web portals of 2012. The site also received an award for its regulatory licensing and permitting service as a result of its innovation and efficiency in serving government and business.

Penobscot Community Health Care recently announced that the providers and staff of Capehart Community Health Center have achieved Level III Certification as a Patient-Centered Medical Home by the National Committee for Quality Assurance, the highest level awarded for NCQA Certification.

Franklin Community Health Network Executive Vice President Gerald Cayer was recently presented the Franklin Community Health Leadership Award at the Farmington Community Rounds, hosted by Franklin Memorial Hospital.  Cayer was cited for advancing the availability of dental services through a collaboration with Community Dental; his leadership in a local campaign organizing men and boys to take a stand against domestic violence; and his efforts to recognize local veterans for their service to our country.
