A portion of one of the University of Maine's most popular watering holes is changing hands.
Bear Brew owner Matt Haskell is selling the first-floor restaurant portion of the Main Street brewery to Tom Hashey of Orono, according to The Maine Campus. Haskell will retain ownership of Soma, a club that occupies the second and third floors of the building, and reopen it as Lattitude 44.
The sale should be complete sometime this week, Haskell told the college newspaper. The Bear Brew will close for a few days once the sale is complete to allow for inspections and the upstairs could be closed for two to three weeks for renovations.
Haskell said Lattitude 44 will feature a bar, tapas menu, fine desserts, extensive wine list and a disc jockey booth. He decided to sell the restaurant to give himself more time to run his newest endeavor, Finback Alehouse in Bar Harbor, reported the paper.
Hashey is a former chef at nearby Woodmans Bar & Grill.
