There’s a new, spirited addition to on-demand delivery services in Portland as Drizly, a Boston-based technology firm, officially launched its beer, wine and spirits delivery service in Portland on Thursday.
The tech company partners with local retailers of alcoholic beverages in the United States and Canada to offer home delivery. Portland is Drizly’s 20th market, according to WMTW-TV 8.
"We have done a few deliveries," Old Port Spirits manager Kevin Casey told WMTW. "It's been a great opportunity for us to test out the software and system and how we handle it."
There is a $30 minimum charge on hand-delivered libations, in addition to a $5 delivery charge — and the lack of a limit on how much someone can order ensures that a party host won’t have to leave their event to restock on the social lubricator.
But how will Drizly guarantee that minors won’t be using the service to get their hands on beer, wine and spirits?
"With our local partners, with ID verification software, so that when they get to the customer’s door, they are going to be scanning the ID and making sure they are of age and over 21," co-founder Justin Robinson told WMTW.
