Ted O'Meara, former director of Pierce Atwood's public affairs consultancy and the man behind such high-profile campaigns as the ballot initiative "Fed Up With Taxes" in 2008 and the 2006 re-election of Sen. Olympia Snowe, has opened his own firm, Ted O'Meara Communications.
O'Meara, one of the 21 people laid off in January by Maine's largest law firm, will continue to work from his office there and with many of its attorneys and clients, including Down East LNG and the Maine Real Estate and Development Association. "I will continue the good relationship I have with them, but now I have the opportunity to branch out on my own," O'Meara told Mainebiz. "Most of my work has been dealing with companies and organizations with public policy issues ... that will still be the focus."
Before joining Pierce Atwood, O'Meara served as director of marketing and communications for Blethen Maine Newspapers. He was Snowe's chief staff person in Maine during her first term in the U.S. House of Representatives and then served as executive assistant to Sen. William Cohen for eight years. His political activism included a run for Congress in 1988 and chair of the Maine Republican Party.
