One PWM airline cuts service, another may expand

Twin Cities Air Service is cutting its service between Portland and southwestern Nova Scotia, citing costs of labor, insurance and fuel.

The Chronicle Herald reported that the company was not selling enough tickets for the service connecting the two regions, which previously had a ferry connection that shut down in 2010.

In September, Nova Scotia officials stated renewed interest in bringing that ferry service back online.

In related news, The Associated Press reported that Portland-based Elite Airways said it plans to expand regional service to towns in New Hampshire, Massachusetts and New York, while also looking to develop a nonstop service to Florida's Melbourne International Airport.

In October, the Portland International Jetport hosted a national conference as part of a strategy to court new airlines and expand the airport's offerings.
