OOB trolley sets record

Traffic in Old Orchard Beach hit new highs this year, at least for the local trolley service.

Ridership climbed by nearly 10,000 – from 95,600 last year to 104,700 as of Monday – according to a report in the Sun Chronicle.

That record is set just before Labor Day weekend, which marks the end of the beachside trolley service that begins operation on Memorial Day weekend, running a total of 73 days this year.

The trolley service is a part of the Shuttlebus-Zoom system, which provides local service as well as connections from Biddeford, Saco and Old Orchard Beach to Scarborough, South Portland and Portland.
