ORPC Solutions, a subsidiary of the Portland-based Ocean Renewable Power Co., has secured a deal to provide project management and regulatory affairs services to a wave energy project in Yakutat, Alaska.
The project will deploy wave generation units built by the Boston-based Resolute Marine Energy in the Gulf of Alaska. The project has a preliminary from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for the site and is expected to be online by 2015, according to a company press release.
The project, in the Gulf of Alaska, aims to provide an alternative to diesel fuel power for the community of around 650 people.
The Maine company said staff from its office in Anchorage, Alaska will work on the project. ORPC has its own pilot tidal energy project in the Cook Inlet and estimates that sites off the Alaskan coast make up around 90% of the United States' total tidal power potential.
Correction: A previous version of this story incorrectly identified the Resolute Marine Energy project as a tidal energy project. It is, rather, a wave energy project.
