Our Town Belfast has named Zach Schmesser as its new executive director, effective Jan. 1.
Schmesser brings more than 10 years of experience in event planning and community building, as well as business and nonprofit management. He has also been a small business owner.
As 2017 closes, he is finishing up his role as the events director at the Bicycle Coalition of Maine, where he managed the organization’s signature events including BikeMaine, a week-long bike ride that focuses on economic and community development throughout the state.
Schmesser is a graduate of Unity College with degrees in adventure therapy and adventure education leadership. He earned a master’s degree in business at Husson University.
"Since attending Unity College over a decade ago, I have enjoyed spending time in Belfast and greater Waldo county,” he said in a news release. “My family has roots in the area and we are thrilled to immerse ourselves in Belfast’s vibrant community. I am eager to meet and engage with local community members and dive into the work at Our Town Belfast. It's an exciting time and I am committed to helping Belfast continue its success."
Our Town Belfast will be entering its eighth year as a community-driven and nationally accredited Main Street organization whose mission is to grow and sustain historic downtown Belfast while celebrating its unique cultural heritage.
