Several months after a hayride accident at a Mechanic Falls farm took the life of a 17-year-old girl, the farm has been indicted for manslaughter and its owner has filed for bankruptcy.
The Portland Press Herald reported that an Androscoggin County grand jury Wednesday issued indictments for Harvest Hills Farms and the hayride’s driver, David Brown. The farm has been indicted for manslaughter, aggravated assault, driving to endanger and reckless conduct. Brown has been indicted for reckless conduct.
Peter Bolduc Jr., the owner of Harvest Hills Farms, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy for the company that leases land to the farm, the Sun Journal reported. The company, Andover Covered Bridge LLC, has debt of $1 million to $10 million.
Correction: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that David Brown was indicted for manslaughter, aggravated assault, driving to endanger and reckless conduct. He was only indicted for reckless conduct. The mistake originated from a clerical error in a press release from the office of the Androscoggin County District Attorney, according to the Sun Journal.
