Oxford casino revenues rise; Bangor's drops
While a new casino in Oxford has reported revenue of almost $10 million two months after opening, revenues at the state's other casino in Bangor have fallen, according to the Bangor Daily News.
The casino in Oxford, which opened on June 5, reported collecting $9.8 million in revenue from gamblers during June and July. The Maine Gambling Control Board told the BDN that the state has received around $4.1 million in taxes from the new casino.
Those revenue figures are nearly double the projections of researchers at the Northeast Gaming Research Project at the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth, according to the BDN, and a casino spokesman said the Oxford facility plans to add 10 table games and hundreds of slot machines in October.
The casino currently has 529 slots and 12 table games.
At Bangor's Hollywood Casino, revenue for July dropped $400,000 in comparison with last year, bringing in $5.5 million this year and $5.9 million in 2011. In February, the Bangor operation, previously named Hollywood Slots, became the first full-featured casino in the state.
It has 923 slot machines and 16 table games.
