Passamaquoddy Tribe signs letter of intent for marijuana cultivation facility

The Passamaquoddy Tribe and Monarch America Inc. signed a letter of intent Tuesday for the design, construction and development of a proposed state-of-the-art marijuana cultivation facility on sovereign Passamaquoddy Tribal Trust Land.

Under the proposed management consulting agreement, Monarch America will build out an existing 35,000-square-foot structure located on Maine tribe’s land, according to an announcement. Monarch America also will oversee and consult on all facets of the marijuana operation, including property management, technology and equipment purchasing, inventory control, staffing and day-to-day operational management.

The partnership with the tribe would create the first legal marijuana cultivation operation on sovereign tribal land in Maine, according to Eric Hagen, CEO of Monarch America Inc.
