Saddleback owners outline four options for ski resort

Skiers remain skeptical about Saddleback Maine’s opening this winter, even after the resort outlined four options to remain financially viable on its Facebook page on Wednesday.

In July, the resort said it would not open for the coming season if it wasn’t able to raise $3 million within two weeks to replace an aging chairlift, according to the Portland Press Herald.

The newspaper also said that on Wednesday evening, the resort posted on its Facebook page that it had “exhausted all reasonable financing options” for replacing its 51-year-old Rangeley Double Chair with a high-speed quad. The latter could double the number of skiers per hour going up the mountain.

The Franklin Sun Journal said resort officials posted a variety of scenarios on their Facebook page Wednesday that may dictate how the business is run in the future: 1) We have a buyer negotiating to buy the resort and install a quad lift this season. 2) We have a buyer negotiating to buy the resort; will remain closed for the ski season and install a lift next summer. 3) We have two potential buyers looking at operating status quo for the winter. Improvements would begin next summer. And 4) We are also discussing a leasing option.

Saddleback's owners say the resort is the third-largest employer in Franklin County, according to the newspaper.
