Plum Creek plan reopened for public input

State regulators yesterday reopened the public record on Plum Creek Timber Co.'s development plan for the Moosehead Lake area.

The Land Use Regulation Commission yesterday decided to reopen the public comment period to get feedback on the series of changes the commission recommended last week, according to the Bangor Daily News.

The proposed changes include requiring Plum Creek to finalize several privately negotiated conservation deals on 300,000 acres within 45 days of LURC approval, reducing the number of house lots on Long Lake from 110 to 55, and cutting the size of the development zone on Lily Bay. Opponents of Plum Creek's plan say the changes still allow too much development, while Plum Creek representatives have said they are concerned with the changes, according to the paper.

The public comment period will last from June 11 to July 11.
